You’ve just made your putt for birdie on the 18th
green of the Old Course, what do you do next? That’s easy, you celebrate with
your playing partners while enjoying a wee dram or a smooth pint of beer. The
real question is where do you go to share this special moment? As a travel
expert at Premier Golf, I’ve had one or two memorable experiences in St.
Andrews. These are my Top 5 picks:
The Jigger Inn- This 163 year old iconic building
sits right next to the 17th fairway of the Old Course. Most visitors
like to enjoy a pint of beer and watch golfers play the challenging 17th.
Keep an eye out for wayward shots, one bad slice could send a ball right into
your perfectly poured ale. The Jigger Inn is a classic pub with golf
memorabilia on the walls, a cozy fireplace and an outdoor sitting area. The
famous “wall” on 17 runs right next to the Inn, which provides a good seat for
watching the action unfold on the Old Course. (click here for website)
The Jigger Inn
Ma Bells- Located just down the road from the R
& A clubhouse, Ma Bells has a great atmosphere and a fully stocked bar.
It’s a popular hangout spot for locals and St. Andrews University Students and
is a superb place to go after a round of golf or for a night out on the town.
With a huge selection of imported beers and live music on the weekends, you’re
sure to have a good time. (click here for website)
The Dunvegan- Located right near the 18th green of the Old Course, the Dunvegan is a great place to sip on a pint, hang out with the caddies/locals, and discuss the events that took place on the golf course. As soon as you walk into the pub you’ll notice pictures all over the walls of past Open Championship winner’s posing with Sheena the owner. Her and husband Jack, 4th generation Texan, took over the place in 1994. (click here for website)
Beer on tap at the Dunvegan
The One Under Gastro Pub (Rusacks Hotel)- If you’re
looking for delicious food, smooth beer, and a fun atmosphere, the One Under
Gastro Pub is the perfect spot. Nestled right next to the 18th hole
of the Old Course, the Rusacks Hotel has seen many Open Champions walk through
its doors. If you aren’t in the mood for tradition fish and Chips, order the
One Under Quarter Pounder with chedder cheese, bacon, and onion. Food here goes
best with the ice cold beer on tap. (click here for website)
Burger at the One Under Pub
Golf Place- This downstairs bar located less than a minute walk from the Royal& Ancient Clubhouse has a phenomenal drinks menu that includes everything
from great single malt whiskey selections and smooth ales to classic cocktails like the Mojito, Long Island Ice Tee and Cosmopolitan.
For those in a celebratory mood, there’s live music every Friday, a Jazz jam
session every Tuesday and live DJ every Saturday. (click here for website)
