British Golf Museum in St. Andrews Re-Opens

Playing the Old Course, sharing a pint at the Dunvegan or Jigger Inn and taking a photo at the Swilcan Bridge are just of few of the many great experiences to be enjoyed and savored in St. Andrews.

Make sure you include the newly enhanced British Golf Museum on your list of don't miss activities in the village of St. Andrews.

Following a year-long closure, the British Golf Museum, situated directly opposite of the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, has recently re-opened its doors.  New additions include an 80-seat cafe on the museum roof and a remodeled reception area, gift shop and galleries.

"The cafe, re-designed galleries and shop herald a new chapter in the museum's history and we're excited by the direction we're going," says Angela Howe, museum and heritage director for the British Golf Museum. "The building has been transformed from a semi-hidden bunker to an elegant addition to the landscape. The museum has a stronger presence, which we hope will appeal to visitors and the local community."

The cafe has panoramic views of the 1st tee of the Old Course and West Sands Beach and a Scottish menu, including Afternoon tea. The museum shop now stocks official Open Championship merchandise year round.

Well organized, the British Golf Museum features more than 16,000 items detailing more than 500 years of history with exhibitions, hands on activities and selections from the R & A's film archive. You'll see clubs, balls, clothing, trophies, medals, photographs, artwork and books on display.

Popular collections include: The Origins of Golf, Great Open Champions, Early Professional Golf and Tom Morris--The Grand Old Man of Golf.

With the 144th Open Championship just around the corner, a special exhibition has been installed that highlights the career of five-time winner Tom Watson.
